Does the subscription also include channels from DI.fm?

DI.fm is our sister network specializing in electronic dance music. The answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY, your subscription will always give you access to all our channels, from SKY.fm and DI.fm. And when we add new channels, you'll get them added to the list of channels available as well.

What kind of payments does SKY.fm accept, especially for international subscribers?

We accept Credit Cards, PayPal, and payment by mail. International users wishing to send in a payment by mail must send a check in USD$ funds. More information is available on the signup page (click on question marks there).

Not sure if it will work?
- if you think you have a weird setup, we recommend the option of signing up for the "2 Day Pass" Premium plan which costs only $2. Check out the service, and if you like what you see and hear you can then subscribe for a longer plan.

Which media players does your service work with?

Our service works with Winamp (Windows), XMMS,
Apple iTunes (Mac/Windows), Real Player and Windows Media Player.
For Palm OS: Pocket Tunes (deluxe version, after 1/15/2004), and many other players.

Which media players are not supported yet?

So far we have reports that MusicMatch player does not work correctly (use Winamp instead). There may be others that do not support "basic authentication" correctly. Some hardware home audio setups may not support basic authentication correctly.

I am behind a firewall, can I get your service to work?

All the 192k streams are available on port 80 as well as higher ports like 8000. Very soon our 64k aacPlus streams will be on port 80 as well.

Note: at time of this writing a few of latest channels are not yet on port 80, but that will not be for long (May 2006).

Who exactly am I paying to, what is this Audio Addict, Inc?

Audioaddict, Inc is our sister technology company that was started to develop the Premium system and handle payments. Your credit card or PayPal statements may show AudioAddict or DI.fm / SKY.fm.

Many of the same people behind SKY.fm's Digitally Imported Inc are in charge of Audio Addict as well. Digitally Imported Inc is the legal name of our entertainment company, Audioaddict is the technology company.

If I sign up for an account but discover that my computer/connection is unable to handle a steady stream, what are my options?

The service comes "as is" and therefore we cannot be responsible for connectivity issues since so many things can go wrong on the Internet. If you experience constant connectivity issues, you can try the following:

- Wait for connections to improve. Sometimes these are temporary Internet problems, and neither our company nor yourself are at fault.

- Email our Support at support[AT]sky.fm and ask for your service plan to be changed or looked into.

- Ask for a refund to stop the service. See our Refund Policy below.

What exactly is your Refund Policy:

From our User Agreement the official policy is: "If you cancel the Service altogether, you may receive a partial refund only as follows: (a) If more than 31 days remain until your Service subscription expires, cancellation is effective the day following the day SKY receives notice. Your refund will be the pro-rata portion of the amounts you were billed for the days remaining to expiration, less a 30-day cancellation penalty, and you will not be billed again. (b) If 31 days or less remain until your Service subscription expires, cancellation is effective on the day your subscription expires. You will not receive any refund for the days remaining to expiration, but you may continue to access the Service during those days, and you will not be billed again. Days begin at 12:00:00 am US Eastern time and end at 11:59:59 pm US Eastern time.

However, many times if you truly have a problem we can refund you right away. We like to keep our customers happy.

Can I share my account with friends or relatives?

We encourage people to get their own accounts, especially with the massive price cuts as of May 1, 2006.. Should you decide to let someone "borrow" your account, you should be aware that only one concurrent connection is allowed and enforced by our system at any given time. Both you and a friend cannot be on at the same time. Please read the next question for more details.

What is stopping me from sharing my username and password with my friends?

The pricing is based on the assumption that only one person per account is listening at any time. The system therefore enforces that no more than one person can listen at the same time. If you (or your friend using your password) open more than one concurrent connection, then the first one will be disconnected. In other words, if you give your password to others, they will kick you off the stream when they tune in. The effect actually may look like buffering or disconnection under a minute. If you think this may be happening to you, please email our support and we can see it in our system.

How long can I stream for? Will I be disconnected after any time period?

You can stream for as long as you want. Sometimes there may be a reset for connections that last for over 12-24 hours. This is just our way of keeping the costs down for everyone. You can of course connect again immediately.

How can I use mpg123 Player on my *nix system?
(not recommended on a shared system)
Use mpg123 in the following way:
mpg123 -u "" http://user:pass@160.79.128.22:8020/
or
mpg123 -u user:pass http://user:pass@160.79.128.22:8020/
(Individual IP's can be retrieved from the .pls file for each channel)

Will my StreamRipper work with the Premium streams?

You aren't supposed to be streamripping anyway, this is a radio service, not "rip your tracks here" service. We are legally supposed to discourage recording of our radio streams.

With that said, there are too many programs out there and we don't know which work or do not. However, we do know that there are many streamrippers which attempt to open a concurrent second connection, which makes our service enforce the "one connection only" rule as mentioned in above questions.

Can't I pay for only one or two channels, I don't listen to them all?

No - the pricing is based on the assumption that you can listen only to one channel at any given time, regardless of which channel it is. We did not add to the price just because we have many channels. The bandwidth a listener utilizes when he/she streams, and other operating expenses, are still the same if we have one channel or 50 channels.

I only listen once in a while, not regularly. Is there a plan where I can buy Premium service by minutes/hours - like a phone calling card?

No. We have recently lowered our prices considerably as of May 1, 2006 in order to address such a concern. Many now feel it is okay if they don't listen every day because the prices got this low..

If I don't plan to use the streaming service for weeks while I'm on vacation, will I be credited?

No, trying to micromanage something like would increase costs for everyone.

Can I legally record the stream if I am a paying subscriber?

Subscribing to our Premium service does not grant you any permission to download or record content. It simply gives you access to our radio channels at higher quality, better performance, and without commercials. What you decide to do for your personal fair use is up to you though.

What are the sensitive and/or personal information being sent to and from the server? Is it on a secure connection?

Billing options are on a secure connection. Check to see if the URL starts with https. If it does not, you can change http to https to make it secure. Your Access Password, however, is not used in a secure manner - that is why we recommend you have your Billing Password be different than your Access Password.

Is there a group discount if I get several people to sign up together?

Not at the present time.

Can I re-broadcast the stream to my colleagues to save our bandwidth at college or business office?

Our Premium system doesn not allow for such use. If your company is interested in private, commercial free relays, it is going to cost something per user. If interested and you have a minimum of 10 users, please contact us.

Forum Questions:

I already have a username on SKY.fm Forums, can't I use that as my streaming username?

No, the forum system is separate from the Premium Service at the present time.

Can I get anything special on the message forums if I am a Premium subscriber?

Yes. You have the option of putting in your forums account to get the banner ads removed on the forums as well. You can also ask for a custom user description title.

I have more questions for this FAQ, will you add them here?

Probably, please contact us if you'd like to suggest or ask some.
